Dr. Quinn and Dr. Sagatys work to help our patients toward or maintain a healthy lifestyle so they can live their best quality and most enjoyable life.

TMJ

Problems in the jaw system can very much affect our quality of life. TMJ can be joint and/or muscle related. It can be caused by trauma, stress, bad bite, and breathing disorders.

Signs and symptoms include:

  • Clicking and popping
  • Grinding Sound
  • Locking of the jaw
  • Soreness in front of the ear
  • Headaches
  • Bite related problems
  • Cervical neck issues
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding)
  • Sinus-like symptoms

Depending on the diagnosis, primary therapy typically involves the use of splints to correct poor bites, decrease loading on the joints, and reduce muscle hyperactivity. Medications for inflammation, muscle relaxation, and sleep can be used. A main goal is to control and reduce the forces on the joints, muscles, and teeth. At times, serious joint problems may occasionally require surgical intervention.

INFLAMMATION

Underlying chronic inflammation can lead to very serious health concerns, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, dementia, and more. Many times chronic systemic inflammation can be detected by simply looking in the mouth. Many pathogenic bacteria in the mouth spread throughout our bloodstream and effect other areas of our body, that can then lead to other health conditions. By recognizing and diagnosing this inflammation, a treatment protocol can be used to control the disease activity. Thus helping reduce the risk of serious health problems.
